Spiritual Guidance & Blessing at Milarepa Retreat Centre

Guiding the Path with Compassion and Wisdom

Milarepa Retreat Centre is honoured to be under the spiritual guidance of Nubpa Rinpoche, who was appointed by His Holiness Chetsang Rinpoche as the Centre’s Spiritual Director when the retreat facilities were first completed in 2014.
During his visit for the opening ceremony, Rinpoche offered blessing prayers for each retreat hut, establishing an auspicious foundation for all future practitioners who would spend time in solitary retreat here.
Known for his warm presence and ability to communicate fluently in Mandarin, Nubpa Rinpoche has long supported the Dharma community. Due to his age, he now seldom travels abroad, making his early blessing of the Centre especially precious.
This video captures a part of that significant moment in the Centre’s history.

Blessing Ceremony

Open-Air Puja

At the retreat centre, an open-air puja was once conducted on the grounds, offered with devotion and sincerity. Practitioners gathered to perform the ceremony together, dedicating the practice and invoking the blessings of the Triple Gem.
It was a simple but meaningful occasion that reflected the centre’s spirit of harmony, faith, and collective practice.

A Return to New Zealand

Venerable Wei Wu

Venerable Wei Wu first visited our retreat centre shortly before the COVID lockdown. A graduate of the University of Canterbury (1973), he discovered Buddhism during his time in New Zealand. After nearly two decades working as an engineer and consultant across multiple countries, he ordained at age 43.
He later founded Than Hsiang Temple in Malaysia and The International Buddhist College (IBC) in Thailand, both respected institutions in Mahayana Buddhism. In 2020, he received the Khyentse Fellowship, the highest honour from Khyentse Foundation, for his contribution to Buddhist education.

佛浴

Wesak Day celebration

Wesak Day is a sacred occasion that commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana of the Buddha. At the Milarepa Retreat Centre, we hold a serene Buddha Bathing Ceremony each year, welcoming participants to join this meaningful and symbolic practice.
During the ceremony, guests gently pour fragrant water over the statue of the infant Buddha. This act represents cleansing away afflictions, cultivating clarity, and renewing compassion and wisdom in daily life. The ritual is often accompanied by chanting, guided contemplation, and short Dharma reflections, creating an atmosphere of peace and reverence.
The Buddha Bathing Ceremony is not only a traditional ritual but also an opportunity for inner reflection and spiritual purification. Whether newcomers or long-time practitioners, participants can experience a moment of calm, connection, and inspiration.
