The Drikung Kagyu Lineage
The Drikung Kagyu lineage is one of the major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, founded in 1179 by Jigten Sumgön. It traces its spiritual origins back to the great masters Tilopa and ultimately the primordial Buddha Vajradhara. The lineage is known for its unbroken transmission, and distinctive teachings such as Mahamudra, Sole Intention, and the Phowa practice.
The lineage today is guided by two spiritual heads: His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche (37th) and His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chungtsang Rinpoche (36th).
At Milarepa Retreat Centre we endeavour to preserve and transmit this authentic lineage for the benefit of all beings.
