About

The Centre is a Buddhist study and retreat centre at 302A Dyer Road, Tauhoa, Wellsford, New Zealand, open to New Zealanders and global visitors to practise Buddhism opened in 2014.  The Centre follows and promotes Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism with the objective of enabling more people and disciples to learn, understand and practise Buddhism under proper guidance. The founder and the Spiritual Leader of the Centre is His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche. 
It is situated in the rural zone at a hilly site neighbouring with stream and forest, a peaceful and calm environment conducive for meditation and retreat practices.

Our Future Vision

Milarepa Retreat Centre is entering a new stage of development, guided by the aspiration to make the Centre more welcoming, accessible, and sustainable for practitioners and visitors from around the world.

  • Future Direction

The existing huts will be upgraded into comfortable retreat villas for short-term stays. These will be available to visitors from New Zealand and overseas who wish to experience a peaceful rural environment for self-retreat, reflection, or small group activities.


Several new facilities are planned, including a Prayer Hall, Community Hall, Community Kitchen, and the Archi Temple on the hillside. The current residence will be converted into a Teaching Hall and Library to support teachings, study, and Dharma activities.


Landscaping and gardens will be added around the new buildings to create a calm and harmonious setting for spiritual practice and daily life.
